Your mute button should be in the lower left corner, it looks like a microphone and if you click on it, it will mute you (or unmute you).
Tony Clark (he/his/him)
01:01:00
Jen: could you expound on what you mean "repair"?
Michael Young
01:06:44
I use the image of the letter U. we stand on one side and want to leap to the other side without doing the work. we as white people just decide to go deep into the bottom of the U. the truth of our own racism. then we may be able to be a true and authentic Ally.
Sarah Doerrer
01:07:17
I love that - thank you for sharing
Michael Young
01:07:25
must not just. sorry.
DLS
01:08:15
Avoid the use of the word “ally.” BIPOC want leaders, not allies.
Michael Young
01:10:21
ah. thank you for that clarification
Deborah Kohler
01:10:37
I like that term spiritual and emotional malformation
Tony Clark (he/his/him)
01:12:56
Could we get the people on their phones to mute? they are popping up as the speaker in speaker view and it is VERY distracting.
Deborah Kohler
01:14:07
i believe the host has the capability to mute everyone
Anita Bradshaw (she, her, hers)
01:14:37
Yes. I asked for that earlier, but that tool hasn’t been used.
Amanda Hendler-Voss (she, her, hers)
01:15:09
Brandaun has a question/comment.
Marta Pumroy
01:15:26
People can use the chat feature to say they have a question.
Michael Young
01:16:46
thank you for hosting and navigating. 😄
Laurel (She/Her) Steinetz
01:16:47
Turn your sound off while you ask your question and then you can turn your volume back on after you ask your question :))
Anita Bradshaw (she, her, hers)
01:16:58
If anyone is using both the video function and has called in on their phone, that will create feedback, as well.
Anita Bradshaw (she, her, hers)
01:17:29
Or mute the computer and only use the phone for sound.
jessicashine (she/her)

What’s the best way to respond to family members who say they don’t see you as a person of color, because you’re light skinned?
DLS
01:25:55
I wonder if she believes that all white people are racists. Why or why not? This question helps me to understand how she defines racism.
jeri shaw
01:27:53
We are all racialized! JH has accounted in dear white xns!
David Allen
01:28:20
Apologies for the feedback problem when I tried to ask my question.
Vivian Jackson
01:29:12

I like to "practice" on my family. :) It's an opportunity to experiment with different ways of dialogue. In a place where there's a lot of emotional energy.

My experience is in early childhood where we think a lot about stages of development. I think I hear Jennifer saying white folks need to do this before they are ready to do that. Can she identify 4 or 5 stages of development in becoming an effective anti-racist activist
Barrick Stees
01:35:14
I think we're all getting a stimulus check soon. Perhaps white folks could donate to a predominately African American church with no strings attached. Maybe white congregations could discuss how to pool these checks and dialogue with an AA church to see where the need is greatest?
DLS
01:36:44
Repair-based resource distribution. Nice! Wish we had white church leaders who has that spirit and courage in my town. #blessed

01:39:25
Always important to step back and reflect on charity for BIPOC vs. equity/justice for BIPOC. One is short-term and the other is long-term and geared towards structural change.
